Rail Network Impact Management

2022 - 2024(Ongoing)

The Rail Network Growth Impact Management (RINGM) programme is a major KiwiRail initiative focused on upgrading the
Auckland Metro Rail Network (173km) tosupport increased service frequency, reliability, and performance ahead of theCity Rail Link (CRL) opening. The programme forms part of the wider RailNetwork Rebuild (RNR) and targets renewalof the permanent way infrastructure, including formation, drainage, ballast, sleepers, and rail, to address historic under- investment and asset condition risks.

RINGM is critical to ensuring the networkcan safely and reliably accommodate faster, more frequent passenger services fromaround 2026 while maintaining freight operations where practicable.

Railize was embedded within the KiwiRail delivery team, providing hands-on rail engineering and design support across multiple RINGM
work packages. Railize supported the programme through rail alignment design, civil formation design, and drainage and stormwater design, working as an integrated part of the KiwiRail project and engineering teams. Our role included developing and reviewing design solutions that responded to
existing asset condition, constructability constraints, and the staged delivery model adopted under the RINGM programme. The scope also involved close collaboration with KiwiRail’s operations, maintenance, and project delivery teams to ensure that designs were practical, buildable within extended Block of Line (BoL) possessions, and aligned with the programme’s access strategy and delivery
sequencing. By embedding experienced engineers directly into the client team, Railize provided continuity between planning, design development, and
delivery, supporting timely decision-making and consistent engineering outcomes across a complex, multi-route programme.
