Railize was engaged by Wellington Water to carry out a detailed inspection of the 3.2 km Wainuiomata–Orongorongo water tunneltrack. The tunnel, constructed in 1924, houses a major water pipeline for the Wellington region. The jigger provides essential transport for personnel and equipment to maintain the pipe.
Railize delivered a combined manual survey and sensor-based investigation:
Visual inspection of rails, slabs, drainage, and tunnel condition.
Gauge readings at 50 m intervals and assessment of critical
joints.
First full technical inspection of the jigger vehicle (braking,
transmission, safety, emissions).
Review of operational health and safety procedures for tunnel
work.
Collaboration with researchers from the University of Auckland
to implement and analyse the solution with onboard sensors.
