City Rail Link (CRL) is New Zealand’s largest infrastructure project. It transforms the passenger rail services by creating a 3.5km underground rail line through the city centre. The CRL tunnel will double Auckland’s passenger rail capacity by connect Waitematā Station (Britomart), Maungawhau Station (Mt Eden) with two new underground stations. Michael was the Track Design Lead responsible for the team that delivered track alignment and track engineering, and Sujesh was the Track Discipline Lead for the Henderson Station Upgrade as part of the wider network improvements associated with the CRL tunnels. Railize is currently providing MSQA service to CRL during the construction phase for the ballast track, surface track drainage and especially Slab tracks (LVT, Delkor). Given the first-of-its-kind nature of this work in NZ, it was crucial that Railize is supporting the project with its international expertise and experience, and providing technical assurance that contractors adhered to planned specifications and timelines. Once operational, CRL will significantly increase access to the city centre from the wider suburbs, notably reduce travel times while increasing the passenger capacity. The development secures opportunities to increase the Auckland housing supply by approximately 1400 new dwellings.
