Rail National Improvement

2022 to 2024 (Ongoing)

The Rail Network Investment Programme (RNIP) is KiwiRail’s nationwide programme to renew, maintain, and enhance New Zealand’s rail network (4000kms) to support safe, reliable, and resilient freight and passenger services. The programme covers a wide range of works across the country,
including track renewals, turnouts, formation and drainage improvements, level crossings, and supporting rail systems. RNIP is critical to sustaining networkperformance, managing asset condition risks, and enabling long-term growth in rail freight and passenger demand.

The programme represents a multi-billion-dollar investment, with approximately NZD3.2 billion committed during the 2021–2024 period, and additional funding approved through subsequent budget cycles to extend delivery beyond 2024. Funding allocations are managed on a rolling basis and are
prioritised according to asset condition, safety risk, network performance, and delivery capacity.

Railize was engaged as part of the RNIP programme between 2022 and 2024, providing specialist rail engineering support across multiple work
packages and locations throughout the network.Railize delivered Design track alignment, track formation, civil engineering, drainage for for track renewals, turnout works, formation and underfoot condition improvements, and associated civil and drainage interfaces. Railize supported construction-phase technical support during construction phase. The scope included from concept design, detailed design, Construction drawings to KiwiRail standards and approved designs. Railize also supported engineering reviews, constructability advice, and issue resolution, assisting with technical queries arising during delivery and ensuring that safety, quality, and operational requirements were consistently met across geographically dispersed RNIP projects.
